Bingo was started in the year 1530 in Italy as the Italian National Lottery by the name ‘Lo Giuoco del Lotto d'Italia’ after their union. In the late 18th century, the French played it with a deck of Playing cards, by placing them in piles, of three parallel and nine perpendicular rows. Soon after, it came to be in use as a teaching tool for the children, like teaching multiplication tables, spellings and other educational topics. Bingo’s new form comes from Italy. The word bingo is derived from ‘Beano’, a deviation of Bingo, which Americans played in early 16th century. An analogous game Beano acquired the name from Beans.
Bingo can be played in two unlike ways: - Straight Bingo and Point Bingo. Both the games have a set of printed cards with differently arranged numbers, a checking card or table and number pieces or cards for numbers 1 to 90. During the game, the players raise these printed cards which have several numbers on them. Another person, normally called the master of the house, pulls out numbers at unsystematic way and he or she exclaims them out. Amongst the players, the first person who gets a predefined collection of numbers on his cards entitled out as ‘Bingo’, means winner and to notify others about the end of game.
In straight Bingo the purpose is to complete or strike off any five numbers on the card, in any direction, i.e. - straight, upright or crossways. The game Point Bingo even if it is played by the similar method varies in its goal. Point Bingo considers the winner according to the points or score he got. The winner is the first player who completes five numbers on his card in any of the aforesaid directions towards the end of each round. In point bingo the points the player gets is the sum of numbers of his cards. Making one thousand points in total is the effort of Point Bingo. Various casinos or clubs modify their point system according to their rules. They even introduce bonus points for particular models of games.
