If you frequently make long distance phone calls, you should expect a large phone bill. Although a few phone packages include long distance into the main cost, there are limitations on where one can call without getting charged a fee.

For instance, you could have unlimited long distance calls within the USA, but still have to pay ridiculously large fees for international phone calls. The great thing is that, if you sign up for VOIP as part of the HugnesNet Satellite Internet service from Direct TV, as part of the package you can place long distance calls at low rates with no limits.

You might be totally clueless as to what VOIP is and why Satellite Internet service is required to use it. VOIP stands for voice-over-internet-protocol and is pretty much a telephone used over the internet. The quality and reliability of VOIP is tied up directly to the level of service offered by your Internet connection. With dial-up, the VOIP will be polluted with static noise and not continuous. If you have Satellite Internet, then using VOIP isn't any different from talking on the phone.

Also, Satellite Internet has several other benefits. Satellite Internet is amazingly fast compared to dial-up with speeds of 700 mbps. Also, Satellite Internet makes it possible for multiple computers to be on the internet at the same time.

This feature works very well with VOIP also. Everyone will have equal access to both Internet and the phone when they use VOIP and Satellite Internet, eliminating fights between family members over whose turn it is to use the phone or the Internet. One great advantage is that you don't need any additional phone lines installed.

So, how much does it cost to get VOIP and Satellite Internet? To get the basic package of HughesNet Satellite Internet from a Direct TV dealer would cost $99. Depending on the provider, the cost of VOIP packages may vary.

Some providers have a subscription fee that is charged every month. This fee is usually cheaper than most phone services, costing on average $25 dollars or less a month. These are usually the best deals since you receive unlimited long distance at an affordable price without the fees of having additional phone lines.

Those people who rarely use their long distance may choose to use a VOIP provider who offers a calling card program. Essentially, you would be paying for a specific number of minutes and, in most cases, it's quite generous. You will have to pay another fee to get more minutes once you use them up. At first glance this plan seems more expensive than regular phone service, but people who don't use their phone often may pay $5 or less for the entire month.

Getting VOIP and Satellite Internet can help you reduce your phone bill while increasing your Internet surfing speed. The biggest expense is for the Internet, which is still a small amount of money considering what you are receiving.
