Tango dancing is a very romantic in style. This type of dancing is often danced in ball rooms where it looks quite glamorous. Glamour of this dancing style could be the reason you would like to select this style for your dance lessons.
This style of dancing originated in Argentina. It then spread to Europe in early twentieth century. This dance form started to become popular in the United States when film actor Rudolph Valentino danced tango in a film in 1921.
Dancing of Tango is done in various styles: Argentine, French, Gaucho and International. There is an Americanized version which is a combination of the best parts of each dance style.
Music is a very important part of tango dancing. Tango music is based on 16 or 32 beats. Music is played like a story. It has got it paragraphs also known as Major phases and sentences which are better known as Minor phrases.
A tango dancer should concentrate on the music, dance as well as on the audience for a great performance.
Tango dancing looks quite dramatic and earthy. The dance form is dominated by walking movements. But, these walking movements are different from other styles of dancing because it has a more "stalking" or "sneaking" character. Movements are sometimes slow and sometimes it is fast. Tango has a counter clockwise flow of movement around the dance floor. But, it has a lesser sense of urgency compared to smoother and more continuous ballroom dancing. American style tango makes lots of use of open and alternate dance positions to highlight the dramatic nature of this dance form.
In tango dancing, the feet is picked up and then placed on the floor rather than sliding on the floor. The foot action is highly articulated which is often compared with the stalking movement of a cat.
